MBR, also known as membrane bioreactor, is a modern wastewater treatment technology that combines activated sludge process with membrane separation technology.
Membrane bioreactor has replaced the secondary sedimentation tank in traditional processes. It can efficiently perform solid-liquid separation, obtain stable recycled water that can be directly used, and maintain a high concentration of microorganisms in the biological tank.
This results in:
- high concentration of solid suspended solids (MLSS)
- low suspended solids and turbidity
- significant removal of bacteria, viruses, and ammonia nitrogen
- low energy consumption
- small footprint
- separate control of hydraulic retention time (HRTT) and sludge retention time (SRT)
- without the concern of sludge expansion
